Trumpeter Dr. Richard Roper has performed with ensembles throughout the Bay Area and beyond including Symphony Silicon Valley, Opera San José, Monterey Symphony, Santa Cruz Symphony, Oakland Symphony, Pacific Chamber Orchestra, Mendocino Festival Orchestra, Napa Valley Symphony and many more. He teaches trumpet at UC Santa Cruz, Santa Clara University, and West Valley College, and also serves on the music faculty of College of San Mateo. In addition, Richard directs the El Camino Wind Orchestra. He has previously served as the trumpet instructor at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music Pre-College, School of the Arts in San Francisco, Cal State Stanislaus, and the University of Maine.

Richard holds degrees from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, Yale School of Music, and the University of Maryland School of Music. As a Harriet Hale Woolley Scholar he spent a year studying and performing in Paris. He received further training at the Music Academy of the West, Aspen Music Festival, and the Norfolk Chamber Music Festival. His teachers are Antoine Curé, Allan Dean, Chris Gekker, Mario Guarneri, and Raymond Mase.
